About the Event
Most people think of tarot as a fortune-telling device, but when we explore this evocative pack of cards from a queer vantage, we discover that the tarot is also an essentially queer-aligned tool for nonbinary thinking. Using the cards, we can interrupt colonial cis-heteronormative binary models of thinking that divide existence into male/female, good/bad, human/nature, mind/body, perfection/failure, us/them; and instead cultivate nonbinary ways of thinking and feeling that embrace strangeness, curiosity, liminality, complexity, flexibility, and change.
In this 2-hour live virtual class, we will reframe the tarot's Major Arcana as a journey from binary thinking to nonbinary thinking, shift our perspective from fatalism and absolutes to possibility and creativity, and explore methods and frameworks for using the cards in this queer and liberatory way.
Tarot for Nonbinary Thinking is part of the Meet Me At The Margin Virtual Queer Conference, an new month-long conference on re-storying queerness through a mystical lens, organized by Nick Kepley of the In Search of Tarot podcast and including a truly incredible line-up of facilitators, including Sophie Strand and Edgar Fabian Frías. Through a series of eight workshops, participants explore queerness through the lenses of tarot, astrology, narrative therapy, eco-mythology, archetype, art, and more.
Workshops will be held every Sunday (from 6-8pm ET) and Wednesday (from 7-9pm ET) in June, for a total of 16 hours of instruction. Captions will be enabled for all sessions, and recordings will be available through 7/31.
If you register by May 7th, you'll get 25% off the cost of regular admission. There are also discounted Trans and Drag Visibility and Student rates. Register through the conference website today!
